Botafogo celebrated their Copa Libertadores title on the streets of Rio de Janeiro this Sunday (December 1st), after beating Atlético-MG 3-1 in the final played the day before in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The black and white delegation landed at Rio’s international airport and headed to the headquarters in General Severiano, in the southern part of the city.
After the team arrived, the owner of Botafogo’s SAF, the American John Textor, showed a Botafogo flag out of the plane window, repeating the gesture made by former striker Túlio in 1995, after winning the Brazilian Championship that year, the last major title for the ‘Glorioso’.
Around 400 people waited outside the airport for the Libertadores champions, who left escorted by a large police contingent.

After arriving, the players and the coaching staff led by Portuguese driver Artur Jorge, as well as part of the board, boarded an open-top bus and drove through the streets of Rio to show the trophy to the fans.
In addition to the Libertadores Cup, Botafogo is very close to winning the Brazilian Championship, which could happen next Wednesday, when the team visits Internacional.
The team, who are three points ahead of Palmeiras, will win the title if they draw with Inter in Porto Alegre and lose to Cruzeiro.
If the combination of results does not happen on Wednesday, the decision will be made in the last round, next Sunday, when Botafogo hosts São Paulo.
