The members of Marítimo, from the II Portuguese football league, today approved the club’s report and accounts for the 2023/24 season, which recorded a loss of 4.5 million euros (ME), at a general meeting (AG), in Funchal .
The exercise relating to the last season, which had a loss of 4.5 ME, was voted in favor by 58 percent of those present, with 35 percent abstaining and only seven percent voting against, in a major meeting that took place in the pavilion of the Marítimo, in Santo Antônio.
The second item on the agenda, centered on the proposed activity plan and budget for the 2024/25 season, was also approved, with 67 percent votes in favor, 30 percent abstentions and a rejection rate of three percent .
At the end of the work, the vice-president of the AG board of the ‘red-green’ club, Bruno Melim, highlighted that Marítimo is going through a “differentiated moment”, due to “being in the II League”, having assured that, despite Of the negative accounts, the current management has “stability and organization” to work with.
“We’re going to wait for the January market. Now we have a big challenge ahead of us against third-placed [Benfica B] and that’s what we’re dedicated to. The governing bodies don’t play ball, they don’t shoot, they’re not players, they need to create conditions “, he highlighted.
The former president of Marítimo, Carlos Pereira, who uninterruptedly led the destinies of Madeirans between 1997 and 2021, was also present at the AG and spoke to journalists, praising the work he left behind while he was in office.
“Upon joining the AG, I was honored and satisfied with the recognition for the work I did for this institution, which was the third most credible in the country, the one with the most financial sustainability, and I hope it returns to what it was “, he noted.
Carlos Pereira was concerned about the “situation of the club” in the II League and hopes that this “direction will be able to achieve the objectives”, and, if this does not happen, there may be “an opening for an electoral act and then the members will be the ones who will determine”, he reinforced.
